Emulators WinMX Professional Chat Client (WPCC) -  How To Setup And Help Guide

The WinMX Professional Chat Client is the work of Emulator, an Italian programmer who has created this familiar looking chat client that also has the facility to accept chat based plugins similar to those for Nushichat. There is also a quantity of other programs he has created available from the site archive Here.

Obtaining WPCC

You can obtain the WPCC chat client from Emulators download page found here, and also from the archive Here.
You can select the download location at this stage and I suggest making a home for this in "Program Files\WPCC"
and creating a shortcut from the desktop to this location once you have unzipped the rar file and located the "WPCC.EXE" file.
The folder should now look like this if all has been done correctly so far.

Setting Up WPCC

Now its time to start WPCC up, at this point it will flag up a firewall notice if you have one installed as it automatically tries to connect with initial installations.

You can adjust this behaviour later on in the Settings pages, but for now you should be looking at this screen.

From this page you can see that its possible to change the "username"(circled in red), "shared files" count (circled in Orange) and
"connection type" (circled in blue), displayed in the chat room userlist.
An added extra not seen before on any other chat client is the inclusion of a "status" (circled in yellow) indicator that other WPCC
users can see when they enter a chatroom powered by Eagles Server [ES].
You can set your status to any of those shown in the drop down list box.

This will show in the chatroom as seen here

The Settings Pages

There are three settings pages that can be used to modify the chat client to suit your preferences,
I have taken the liberty of colourising some of them to break down the somewhat complex looking array
of tick boxes and text entry areas.
I shall refer firstly to the colour and then the function in that order for each page below.

Settings Page One

Red section: Advanced Channel Options
The first item in the red area above is the "Hide XXX and bad channels" tickbox this of course should filter out most of the more adult titled rooms such as "sex" "porn" etc, RoomNames.
The area below this is the "Auto Join Channels on Startup" list. Any chatroom entries in this box will be joined automatically each time you start up WPCC.
A tick box situated below will allow you to automatically join any Chat Channels on your favourites list, this will of course save you entering them in the "Auto Join Channels on Startup" box.
"Auto Logins On Joined Channels" is next on the list and of course allows you to enter a chatrooms name and select a password for each chat entry to allow automatic logging in when you enter the chatrooms on this list.
We now reach another tick box, this one is the "Auto ReJoin Channel". When this box is ticked WPCC will attempt to rejoin any channel that it may have "fallen out" of or become disconnected to for some reason.
A seperate box beside the tick box allows you to set the amount of times it will try to rejoin a chat channel, the default is set to three.
"Send A Message when join in chat", this is the more familiarly titled chatroom "Entry Message".
Any text typed in here will be broadcast into each chatroom as you enter, this of course occurs after your login message.

Purple Section: Private Chat Sound And Stuff
"Enable Nudge Sounds" - This tick box is to allow you to set whether you wish to hear IM style "Nudge" sounds from other WPCC users. Un-tick unless you like surprises!
"Enable New Message Sounds" - This tick box will allow you to hear a sound when a new message is received
"Enable Nudges" - This tick box is to allow you to set a choice of whether to receive "Nudge" function notifications or sounds.

Green Section: Incoming Message Privacy
This familiar looking pair of tick boxes allows you to choose either to "Allow Messages From All Sources" or only those who are "Users On Your Hotlist" or "Users In The Same Chatroom".

Blue Section: Incoming Message Alerts
This area allows you to select either "Quiet" or a sound to aleart you to an incoming message.
You can choose between the "Default Wav" or select some other sound using "Browse for Wav File"

Yellow Section: Proxy Settings
This small section is for setting the address and port of a proxy should you wish to use one.
The "Enable Proxy" tick box will as it says enable the proxy.

White Section: Default Peer Cache
This is an important setting so unless you cannot connect and you know what you are doing please do not alter the default setting.
For those who do know what they are doing this setting allows users to change the peer cache to another DNS address or alternatively to join a specific primary directly by ticking the "Default Primary IP" entering the primary IP, TCP Port and UDP Port in the marked boxes.

Orange Section: Various Settings
This area contains a multitude of tick boxes so lets look through these.
"Fetch Channels Immediately When Connected" - This box allows you to automatically grab a channel-list as soon as you become connected to the WPN, sometimes this is unneeded (maybe you have the rooms you want in favourites etc), and you can untick this box to stop this occurring.
"Include Topic In Channel Filter" - This allows you to search for rooms that may interest you by including the rooms topic text in the scope of the Channel Filter button.
"Save Channel List" - This does as it says and will keep a copy of the channel-list handy so you wont have to grab one each time your looking for a specific room.
"Autolog On Join Channel" -  This box when ticked will generate a text log file of the chat room activity in the WPCC folder, you can set the format of the Time, day and date contained in the logs files name by entering the title information you choose in the text box. Best left at default setting.
"Insert "n\" On Multiline Text" - This feature is to help manage large quantities of text by inserting newline characters when necessary - Tick to Enable
"Flash Chat Tab When New Message Is typed" - This is a useful setting for slow rooms where you may not wish to watch the room waiting for a reply that could be some time in coming. Tick to enable.

Settings Page Two

This page is self evident and is for changing the colours used in the various display and list windows.

Settings Page Three

Purple Section: Plugins
This section deals with loading plugins, which can be done manually by Pressing the "Refresh" Button or allowing them to be loaded at startup by ticking the "Enable Plugins to Be Loaded In Chat On Start" tick box.
In both cases the plugin files will need to be installed in the Plug-ins folder of WPCC.

Red Section: Host
This section deals with the integration of [ES] (Eagles Server) into WPCC and will allow you to host a chat room utilising it..
To allow this you will need to enter the path to Eagles server in the box, you can at this point choose whether to hide the servers presence by ticking the "Start Server Hiding" tick box.

Yellow Section: Miscellaneous
In this section there are some common sense options that I don't intend to cover as they are clearly marked so lets move on to some of the more puzzling ones, namely the four tick boxes at the bottom.
"Use Anti-P2P Protocol" - This box is a complete mystery to me folks I'll update this information when I find out what its for myself, for now leave unticked.
"Inform Server When You Type A Message" - This tick box allows for you to choose to send out a special indicator to other WPCC users that you are typing a message, the status message will flash red when typing while this is enabled.
"Show Your User Status And Personal Message" - This tick box will allow your client to send out to other WPCC clients the special "status" marker shown above as well as allowing the sending of the "Personal Message" that is found on the Username/Line type Panel
"Flash And Balloon Tip When You Name is typed" - This tick box simply allows you to see a flashing visual indication when your username is typed into the chat room.

Eagles Server Integration
Most of you will have already spotted that some of the features shown are specific to the combination of both WPCC and [ES] this is because both of the programmers are friends.

I would like to thank Emulator on behalf of the WinMX community for the time and effort he has put in to make his work the popular chat client it is, Cheers Emulator.
