SlavaNap Server Setup

Slavanap is the preffered open-nap protocol server type and can be found here
Prior to installing the software its advised you get yourself a no-ip address from the following location here, you will need this later on in the setup if your IP is non static.

How to set up the Slavanap opennap-protcol server
Locate the appplication software as seen below.

You will need to confirm the location where you want to place the application, the default location is preffered.

On this page you will need to put your No-IP hostname in the box shown, the other settings are ok to leave alone.

The next window is the Message Of The Day (MOTD). This item is really for reference only as you cannot edit it directly, editing this item can only be done in the application folder.

This window is to allow information to be shared with a remote server so your server can be listed on their service and folks can find you, WMW will of course have a list here of folks servers who notify us of their hostnames so please let us know if you are running a SlavaNap server.

Currently there are 4 languages that can be used with Slavanap, you can select yours at this point.

Success !! you've reached the main console window and your server will be up and running at this point, some of you may experience windows firewall popping up also at this stage, obviously this is normal and you should click on the "unblock" button.

Exploring The Console Tabs
As you may see from the image above there are a few tabs to explore and each one of these when selected will show a new subset of controls and options so lets take a closer look.

When Log is selected the main console window displays any recent server activity, this can also be logged to a text file in the Settings menu

The Users tab will display a list of all those who are currently logged in or using the server, as the warning in this tab states generating such lists can consume a lot of memory if thousands of users are connected and for this reason its best to use this feature as little as possible or to simply limit the number of users to a more managable number in the first place.

The Servers Tab is the place to go to join your SlavaNap server with another server operator, this is done by using a local password and setting the remote servers connection details and their password, in this way many servers can be locked together to build a bigger community and allows for file search indexing across them all.

The Friends tab is as simple as it looks, if you wish to give some of your friends a special level then you can enter then in here and they will be able to bypass many of the rules that apply to ordinary users, such as minimum files shared limits amongst other things.

The Hotlist function is familiar to most of you with the exception that this really is a semi-permanent hotlist. Unlike the one used in WinMX this one will retain the users connection details.

The bans list is the same the world over it seems, user who are banned will be in this list and you can add manually any rogue users or delete those entries of users who may have gotten here by mistake

The ignored list is similar to the banned list but is used in the chat enviroment and allows for those being disruptive to be ignored until they calm down and act more reasonably.

The Settings Menu

This is the first option window you will see. Lets look at the settings we can adjust, although for most purposes the default settings can be used.
Here you can adjust the servers main port, another port you can adjust is the one used for sending out information regarding statistics and your servers service availability, if your going to link your server a uniqueID can be entered here so that you and another server operator can join your severs into a bigger network in the same way primaries do on WinMX however for OpeNap protocol networks this has to be done manually.

This setting is used to set the process priority for the server, WinMX also has such a setting but its normally set at "Normal" which would be 0 on this server, my advice is to use 0 unless you experience problems and only at that time increase the priority, misusing this control can lag your whole machine, be warned!

This setting controls the buffer size allocated to the servers traffic, please leave it as it is.

This window deals with the colour settings and an either black or white background scheme can be selected from here.

The next window we meet is another colour settings, this one is mainly for dealing with chat room text msg colours.

You can set the Admin name here, it is prefferable that this is left as the default settings.

On this window you will see your MOTD message, if you have modified it that will show here, there is also some helpful information on some of the txt variables that can be used in bot here in a similar way to WinMX.

Slavanap can be seen as active by looking at the System Tray area of windows (where the clock is) and you can also restart and close it from there by right clicking on the icon.
