How To Configure The BT Home Hub For WinMX or Chat Server

Below is a step by step guide to configure your BT Home Hub router to allow WinMX or Chat Servers.  Before you begin you will need to know your computer's Internal IP and the ports that your using for your WinMX or your Chat Server.  You can get instructions on how to find this info here:
Router Help

First you will need to access the router. Most BT Home Hubs install a shortcut on the desktop for access. Or by typing in your gateway address.
The BT Home Hub gateway address is usually 192.168.1.254,
type this into your Internet browser address bar and click the Go button.
Note: If there is not BT Hub Icon on the desk top or the IP above doesn't work please follow the directions below to find your Internal IP and Default Gateway IP.
Start > Run > type cmd then in the black DOS box type ipconfig to get your IPs.

Once you have accessed the BT Home Hub you should see a screen similar to the one below.

Step 1: Click on the 'Advanced' options highlighted in red above.

Step 2: Click the 'Continue to advanced..' option marked in red above.

Step 3: Click on the 'Switch to another user' option marked in red above.

Step 4: You should now see a box prompting you for your Login Username and Password.
These are supplied by BT and if you don't have them handy you may have to call them to get yours.
Often they are sent with the paper work and used as your Internet login details.

Step 5: Once logged in as Admin you should see the 'Toolbox' options  Marked in red above.

Step 6: Once in the Toolbox screen you will should see Game & Application Sharing, click this now.

Above is the screen you will use to forward ports for your Application.
NOTE:  Here you see the uPnP settings marked in green.  There are many applications that can utilize this allowing for temporary forwarding without setting ports.  The WinMXGroup has a beta patch available that will allow this to work for WinMX.  If you enable this and are interested in the Beta Patch, please read here for more information:
WInMXGroup Beta Patch Release notes
If you use OpenNap please follow the directions here for manually forwarding as some users have experienced a bug with this patch and OpenNap transfers.

Step 7: Please click on 'Create a new Game or Application' option marked in red above.

Step 8: Once you get to this screen you need to fill in the name of your Application.  Please enter the name 'WinMX' or the name of the Chat Server your opening ports for, like WCS, FX, or Ouka, here marked in red circle.
Now tick the 'Manual Entry of Port Maps' radial option marked in red.

Step 9: You will now need to enter a Protocol from the first red box marked above.  Please Select 'TCP' from the drop down menu.
NOTE:  If you're opening ports for a Chat Server then you only need one rule for TCP only.

Now you must enter a port for your Application in the second red box shown above.
Default TCP port for WinMX is 6699 or the port listed in WinMX > Settings > Incoming TCP.
For Chat Servers look in your Config file for the Server to find the correct Port.

Once the information is entered and your sure its correct, please click the 'Add' button shown in the third red box above.
For WinMX please continue these next steps, for Chat Servers please skip to Step 12

Step 10: For WinMX you will now need to enter another rule, you may have to begin at Step 7 again for each rule you need to add.
Name this new one WinMX1, and tick the Manual Entery of Port Mapping again.

For protocol from the first red box marked above, please select 'UDP' from the drop down menu.
Now you must enter a port for your Application in the second red box shown above.
Default UDP port for WinMX is 6257 or the port listed in WinMX > Settings > In/Out UDP.
Once the information is entered and your sure its correct, please click the 'Add' button shown in the third red box above.

Step 11: Once you have added all the ports you need to open for WinMX or a Chat Server,
please click the 'Assign a game or application to a local Network device' option marked in red above.

Step 12: Choose your new Applications you have added one at a time from the drop down menu, and place a tick in the 'Log' Option as shown above.
Then click the 'Add' button.  Repeat this step for all rules you have added.

Once these new rules show on your list of Assigned Games and Applications that's it your ready to use them.
Remember if you made any changes in the WinMX Settings or your Chat Server then please restart WinMX or the Chat Server.

Let me just say a big thanks to a user that patiently walked through this with me then supplied the screen shots for everyone,
