Primary Connection - No Searches/Chat List (UDP Port)

We often hear users that discover something is wrong when they try to use a primary and can not get a Chat List or any Search results but all seems fine on Secondary Connection.  Briefly, the reason is because when you're using a Secondary you're relying on the Primary you're connected with to be set up and have ports to allow this (they handle this for the secondaries connected to them), when you switch to Primary yourself you need your 'own' ports and settings to be correct to get these things.

Often its more likely that your Uploads are not working either.  Either way you still have to make sure both TCP and UDP are configured in order for your Primary to work.  You can't support Network Traffic if your TCP is not working, even if your not trying to share on that connection, and might as well use secondary if you don't plan on fixing it or can't fix it.

Here are some helpful links to configuring WinMX ports in devices and software.

Note:  If your downloads are working properly however, uploads and searches are not, this does NOT mean your ports are set right.  This simply means whoever you were downloading from is set up properly.
If you still have issues after configuring these please be sure to check your Antivirus for ways to allow WinMX.

If ONLY your Searches and Chat List are not working, and uploads are working fine this means that only your UDP port is not set properly, please recheck any configurations in router/modem or firewalls for UDP.

Common issues that cause only Searches or Chat Lists not to work are interferences with the UDP traffic.  This can happen if not all devices and software have the same port number set, often simply just a typo in your router/modem, firewall, WinMX Settings, or even antivirus software can cause this.  Make sure any and all configurations you have made, the port numbers match exactly and are not set wrong
TCP=the correct tcp port and UDP=the correct udp port.

Also make sure if you use another firewall with Windows XP that the XP firewall is either OFF or configured properly as per the instructions on links above.

Another common mistake is users setting both TCP and UDP Protocol Traffic to the same ports, although this can work, with some devices or software it can cause intermittent problems.  If you're having issues best to make sure you're using two separate numbers for each protocol.

Last but not least of Chat room List problems is getting a partial list of about 100 - 500 channels listing.  If your experiencing this issue and your uploads and searches are working fine please visit this page:
